Hello! My name is Trey, and I enjoy doing taxes. No, I am not being threatened as I type this. (really).
You see, going back 12 years ago, I was sitting for the CPA exam. I told myself that I would NEVER do taxes, that I was destined for a life of corporate auditing. Buuut, friends/family started to find out that I was becoming a CPA, and they asked me for help on their taxes. Those friends and family told their friends and family, and THOSE friends and family told even more of thier friends and family. All of a sudden, I had inadvertently became a 'go-to' contact for tax related items.
And honestly, I wouldn't change it. My experience is not just in Tax, it also extends to Financial Planning and Analysis, Corporate Accounting, Internal Auditing, and Non-Profit financials. If the data involves a dollar-sign, chances are I have worked on a similar item/project.
I only sign off on returns/reports that I know about and can support if questionned. More importantly, I know what I dont know. So if something is outside my expertise, I will let let you know and recommend a referral.
You and I both don't have time to complete subpar/incorrect work.
It's one thing to give back your financial copies and say, "see you next time!" This is your money we're talking about, so I want to make sure you know what is going on. So be prepared for me to go through things. Heck, I have lost happy clients because they understood their taxes enough to handle it themselves. That's a win in my book.
I can't believe I even have to type this out, but the reality is that there are "tax people" out there that have no business trying to do tax work. I'll spare you the 'sob story' about me becoming a CPA, but I'm not going to jeoparidize my license by performing unethical work. Accounting is what I do and I'd hate to be 'black listed' from the profession.
Your Financials... My Spreadsheets. It's a love story almost as good as 'The Notebook '
